Tips and Tricks from Licensing

We all tend to dread filling out paperwork. Let’s be honest, who really enjoys getting a large packet of forms to fill out? Paperwork is tedious, time consuming and requires a lot of attention to detail. No wonder none of us like to do it. However, filling out paperwork is a necessary task in this industry. Therefore, Licensing would like to share a few tips and tricks with you that will help speed up the processing time of your paperwork.

  1. When possible, fill out the paperwork by typing your information.
    If you are not able to type, be sure to write clearly and legibly. If your handwriting is hard to read, we may have to ask you to redo it, causing delays. Licensing and other departments cannot make any assumptions about the information presented on your paperwork, since most of the forms are legal documents. So to avoid questions like, “Is that a 4 or a 9?” please print clearly or type your paperwork.
  2. If you are filling out paperwork by hand, be sure to use black ink.
    When a document with blue ink is scanned or faxed, it appears faded and sometimes can be hard to read. It can even disappear if the document is printed and re-scanned.
  3. It is always best to fill out the paperwork in its entirety to the best of your ability.
    There may be items that don’t apply to you, but provide all the information you can. Be sure to take your time and read all the directions to make sure items are not missed. If requirements are missed, your paperwork can be delayed while the items are requested.
  4. When additional explanations are required for questions to which you answered “Yes,” make sure you explain your situation in detail while providing any supportive documents that are relevant.
    We advise agents to be as specific as possible so the carriers don’t have to request additional information later. Additionally, when all information is disclosed upfront, the outcome of the carrier’s decision of approval tends to be more positive. It is better to disclose an issue, even if you don’t think it will matter.
  5. When we process your appointment paperwork, we often are required to send you a link to review and confirm the information presented on your paperwork is accurate.
    This is a great way to make sure we have the most current information on file for you. It is often during this step that we find out personal information such as phone numbers and addresses have changed. If we submit appointment paperwork with inaccurate information, important notifications could potentially be sent to the wrong address causing more delays in other areas of your business. Therefore, be sure to make sure all your information on your paperwork is accurate, and notify Licensing of any personal information changes as soon as they occur. The system will not allow you to change the information yourself unless you access your profile. Please contact Licensing and will we make sure that all FHC’s systems are updated. We will even reach out to the carriers you have current appointments with to make sure they have the current information as well.
